Pre-1998 Srpska Republika (Serbian area) plates. These plates were issued in the Serb-controlled part of the country. They are in the older Yugoslavian style, but using Cyrillic letters. Upper plate: Normal series plate. БЛ = Banja Luka. After the letters is the old Serb shield. Lower plate: Army plate. | |

1998-2009 unified series. To prevent discrimination or even attacks on drivers based on the ethnic region the car is registered in, a new unified plate system was introduced, replacing all previous issues. The number is simply serial with no regional coding. | |
