Pre-2008 normal series plate, pre-1993 style.

St. Barthélémy was a depencency of Guadeloupe until 2007, and thus used department code 971. After 9999 SB 971 was reached, the letters ZY and ZYA were used.
2008 onwards normal series plate.

In 2007 St. Barthélémy split from the overseas deparment Gouadeloupe and became an overseas collectivity of its own. It introduced a completely different numbering system in 2008, consisting of up to three numerals followed by one letter.

Often, the letters SBH are also present on the plate, either in the blue band or as a prefix or suffix to the number, but these are not part of the registration.
