1946-1959 normal series rear plate. ЛЮ = Lithuanian Socialist Soviet Republic.
1959-1980 normal series front plate (all rear plates in this series were 2 lines). OTP = Byelorussian Socialist Soviet Republic.
This is a foreign travel plate. Vehicles travelling abroad that had Cyrillic letters in their registration received new plates for that trip containing only letters that are common to the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
1959-1980 trailer plate. EE = Estonian Socialist Soviet Republic. ПРИЦЕП = trailer.
1959-1980 motorcycle plate. ЛА = Latvian Socialist Soviet Republic.
   1959-1980 agricultural tractor (TP-P) and agricultural trailer (ПР-П) plates.
1967-1980 diplomatic rear plate. 02 = West Germany. The matching front plate was in one line, with D in the same small size, but 02 as big as 545.

1959-1993 military plate pair. All rear plates in this series were 2 lines.
1980-1993 military plate. While most military plates were made in the old pre-1980 style until the end of the Soviet Union, some plates were made in the 1980 onwards style, but still in white on black. I have seen such plates only in Leningrad.
1980-1993 private vehicle plate. A..BM = Lvov (now in Ukraine), foreign travel series.
Normally Lvov vehicles had the code letters ЛB, but vehicles travelling abroad that had Cyrillic letters in their registration received new plates containing only letters that are common to the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
1980-1993 official vehicle plate. ЛИ = Lithuanian Socialist Soviet Republic.
1980-1993 senior republic official plate. ЛT = Latvian Socialist Soviet Republic, C = Special.
Senior officials had the letters before the numerals, and the serial letter C.
1980-1993 trailer plate. ЛB = Lvov (now in Ukraine).
Plate for vehicle leaving the Soviet Union or bought with foreign currency. 570 = Leningrad.
